Classroom Session

While we use the same presentation for all our classroom sessions we never know which way the
discussions will go and the following is a combination from three classroom sessions held late
summer/autumn.

Headlamp flashing is a topic that raises its head at most classroom sessions, and it was no exception being discussed in all three classroom sessions. A myriad of different meanings were identified. To act on any of these is fraught with danger, has the other driver seen the motorcycle filtering past etc.

We should never use a headlight flash for anything other than to let another driver know they we there.

There was also a discussion on using hazard lights, specifically if on a smart motorway and your car looses power. However this may confuse other drivers so would be better to use left signal to
show you are trying to get across to lane 1.

David Reeves, who presents the classroom sessions raised an interesting point regarding observation. One of the key techniques of advanced driving is gathering in information of what is happing around us, and planning for potential outcome scenarios. How many times do we see a hazard situation ahead,
but the car in the outside lane continues to hurtle towards the hazard even though they must have taken in the same information but are just not using it.
