RoadPeace Day – 20th May 2023

We were invited to take part in the RoadPeace Day being held in Abington Park, Northampton. Organised by PC Emelie Bunkall of the Road Policing Unit, the day was part of the national RoadPeace Challenge 2023.

RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims in the UK. They provide information and support services to people bereaved or seriously injured in road crashes and engage in evidence based policy and campaigning work to fight for justice for victims and reduce road danger.

You may recall last year that Emilie walked every day of the national RoadPeace week, each of the seven routes across the county which had all been the location of a road death, including that of her mother whom died in a road crash in 2013.

This year Emelie organised a RoadPeace day in Abington Park, including the Roads Policing Unit, CarKraft, Northants Fire and Rescue, Wickes Roads safety HGV, a horse/rider (to demonstrate the safe stopping distance), safety camera team and others. She also created an area that represented the 1,572 peopled killed seriously injured or injured on Northants roads in 2022. The black cars, pedestrians, motorcycles, cycle, passengers and scooter represent each fatality, whilst grey doves represented the seriously injured and flags the injured.
